Yes. It has built-in speakers and connects by Bluetooth, 3.5mm AUX cable or USB. It also has a Mic mode that visualizes sound from any external speaker.

2. What is the black liquid — is this the "speaker with moving black liquid"?
It is ferrofluid, a magnetic liquid containing nanoscale iron particles, first developed in the 1960s for rocket fuel research in zero gravity. It is permanently sealed in the glass chamber and does not leak during normal indoor use. Keep it upright and away from high temperatures and direct sunlight.

3. What does TWS pairing do?
True Wireless Stereo connects two VENOM BALL units for wider 360° stereo. One unit works fully on its own; a second is optional.

4. How is it powered?
Built-in rechargeable battery, and it runs while plugged in. Use a 5V/2A-or-higher charger.

5. Are bubbles in the glass a defect?
No. Small bubbles are part of the design and buffer pressure inside the glass. Keep the unit upright and they stay out of sight.

7. What kind of music works best?

Great Sounds, Fun but Filtered Visuals

When not playing music, it responds to surrounding noises. My kids (3 and 4) love this speaker when it's both playing, and listening. It's a really neat device.

It also sounds really good considering how small it is. The bass sounds good, vocals are clear, and it has a great range. It's not as good as my surround sound system, or a good pair of headphones, of course, but it is definitely a high quality portable speaker, and is leagues above many other non-visualized portable speakers I've had. I'm very impressed.

The main thing to understand about this speaker, is that the ferro fluid isn't responding to the drivers in the speaker, but to it's own dedicated electro-magnet. That electro-magnet doesn't trigger like a speaker driver does, but rather pops on and off to it's own set of rules. This works fine for energetic visuals, but it doesn't always activate for every beat in a song, and performs better or worse depending on the style of the song. For more modern popular songs with heavy beats and mid-ranged vocalists, it visualizes well, but for less percussive songs, it doesn't behave as I would expect it to. I would have preferred a raw, direct-driver influenced visual, but then it wouldn't be activated via microphone like it does when not playing music. It's a trade-off I suppose.

I'm being a little critical of it's ferrofluid performance, but it sounds great, and performs very well as a speaker with a strong Bluetooth connection, great entertainment value, and high quality build. It's handled some falls and bumps just fine... and for $120, it actually seems well worth the price. I'm very picky about my electronics, but this exceeded my expectations significantly. It would make a great gift, and is a great functional speaker and conversation piece in a main room whether it's playing music or just listening and responding to it's surroundings.
